If you need to return or exchange an item you can send it back at no cost or take it to your neighborhood store. Poor visibility in sunlight. It fills up my pockets. Good things come in small packages, yes, but sometimes they also come in big ones. If you want dual-band Wi-Fi, you may want to consider the Max 2. Autofocus is responsive, and autoexposure handles the transition between areas of shadow and sunlight well.

This phone stands 6. This phone is a borderline pain to carry around. It fills up my pockets. I like the all-glass front of the X Max, which feels great under your thumb. The all-plastic chassis and rear panel could feel a lot better.

ZTE slathered a super-thick, lacquer-like finish on the rear shell and it comes across as slippery and slimey at the same time. The phone is not rugged and is mostly put together well. I noticed only one small gap between the rear panel and the polycarbonate frame on the bottom of my review unit.

The bezels are a bit blacker than the display itself, which makes them stand out even more. You might call it bezelful. The home button is a small circle and the back and multitask buttons are just small dots.

All three light up and vibrate when touched. They stand out visually thanks to a brighter color than the surrounding chassis. The physical profiles are excellent and both buttons are a cinch to find. The screen lock button has a rough texture to help differentiate it from the toggle.

Travel and feedback is perfect. The buttons each offer distinct action with an audible click. The tray also accommodates a microSD memory card. Some people will be happy to learn the X Max has a standard 3. The fingerprint reader is indented a bit and the camera module sticks out a bit, which makes them easy to tell apart by feel.

Both are rimmed in chrome. The Cricket and ZTE logos are painted on in white. Some may be taken aback by the sheer size of it. The screen is very, very nice. The phone is not a VR candidate, but it handles most other content with aplomb.

The X Max offers a huge space for watching video or multitasking on two apps at a time. Viewing angles are good, though, with minimal change in brightness and color. I tested it around the New York City area and found it performed on par with other Cricket-branded phones.

Browsing the web and social media apps was smooth. The phone connected nearly all calls on the first dial and only dropped one during my review period. The earpiece is neither as clear nor as loud as I want it to be, but it suffices on most occasions.

For example, I had no trouble maintaining calls at home and in other quiet spaces, such as an office with a closed door. I had a harder time hearing calls in public spaces, such as coffee shops and city streets.

Calls in the car were very hard to hear. The speaker was prone to distortion when set all the way up. People said I sounded very far away when I spoke to them via the X Max. The speakerphone delivers an equivalent performance.

Ringers and alert tones could be better, though they managed to get my attention when necessary. A phone that lasts all day and then some. I was able to go about my business all day and not worry. It helps a little bit. The X Max supports Quick Charge 2.

Color saturation, brightness, outdoor visibility, and viewing angles are all good, with very little color shifting, making this a very enjoyable display all around. Things continue to remain decidedly mid-range on the hardware side of things as well.

Navigating around the elements of the user interface, opening and closing applications, and multi-tasking are all admirably handled by the device, and most games, including first person shooters and 3D racing games like Asphalt 8 also ran smoothly without much of a hiccup.

There is a single speaker located on the back of the phone, denoted by a tiny slit in the glass. Apart from the poor placement of the speaker, resulting in it being muffled very easily when laying the phone down on a flat surface, the speaker volume itself is fairly low, making it difficult to hear anything save for in the quietest of environments.

Inside is a very large 3, mah battery, that with basic usage like texting, checking in on social networks, and light web browsing, keeps the phone running for as long as two days, with 5 hours of screen-on time.

The front-facing camera not only allows for some great looking self-portraits, but also the ability to easily fit a lot into the frame. The camera application includes three different shooting modes to cater to a variety of users.

For the regular everyday casual picture taker, the automatic mode helps keep things simple, with modes like HDR and a short list of general camera settings available on the left side. Taping on the viewfinder will adjust the point of focus, but exposure is fixed based on the scenery.

For the more advanced user, the PRO mode allows for manual control over white balance, ISO, and exposure, and introduces other elements onto the screen like a horizon leveler and a camera grid. The third mode is what ZTE likes to call the Fun mode, which brings about several different options for layering images together, either on top of one another or side by side, to achieve a certain effect.

Its autofocus is fairly quick, and the majority of the time, photos will come out clear and in focus. The biggest weakness to this camera is its lack of dynamic range though, as it tends to blow out the highlights and crush the shadows almost every single time.

Close up shots are also pretty difficult with this camera, as it struggles to grab focus, with this problem becoming even more apparent in low light conditions. The amount of features are minimal, but they do include things like customizable quick launch shortcuts on the lockscreen, and what ZTE likes to call MI-POP, that puts virtual navigation keys on a floating bubble for easier one-handed navigation.

The design might not be too flashy, but it provides a great overall experience, and most importantly great battery life.

Software The Max 2 comes running Android 6. ZTE has made a fair number of changes to the UI, primarily to app icons, the notification shade, and the settings menu. The lock screen has also been and requires you to hold your finger down, rather than swipe, to unlock.

There are a couple of useful new features. A Battery Saver mode limits background services to save battery. And Mi-POP helps one-handed use by adding an on-screen button to the left edge of your screen, replicating the Back or Home button.

This spares you from having to stretch your thumb all the way down to the capacitive buttons. Pre-installed bloatware is a given with most carrier devices, and the Max 2 is no exception. The games can all be uninstalled, but most of the rest can only be disabled.

Cons Mediocre call quality. Poor visibility in sunlight. Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 Unlocked. Overall, the phone looks very nice with its blue color scheme and subtle pattern on the rear.

Despite its larger form factor, the Grand X Max 2 feels quite nice in the hand. It seems that the phone doubles as a fingerprint magnet at times, but this is nearly inevitable with either a plastic or glass rear.

Although plastic is generally more durable than glass, we noticed many scratches on our Max 2 review unit after only a week of use. Our unit also suffered from an approximately one meter drop onto concrete, and, although the plastic rear fared well, the side band was easily chipped in several locations.

Build quality seems about average for the price, so you may want to consider also purchasing a case, as accidents do happen. This is a great setting to have, and the confusion associated with the indeterminately labeled buttons wears off surprisingly quickly.

Now if only every smartphone manufacturer gave users this option…. While the Max 2 seemed small to me at first after coming from the 6. It has great color reproduction, very good contrast, just the right amount of saturation, and is reasonably readable outdoors.

Day-to-day performance is still quite good too, and the phone rarely had any UI hiccups during my testing. Outside of the several preloaded resource-light games, the Max 2 can struggle a bit with its ageing Adreno GPU.

Although demanding titles like Asphalt 8 are still very playable, they can take some extra time to load and may exhibit some minor frame drops during gameplay. Call quality seemed to be excellent during my time with the Max 2 on the Cricket network.
